Treatment: Part of the natural healing may involve “seating it out”-as the higher body temperature fights infection. If the temperature needs to be reduced, tepid sponging or cold compresses can be used-peppermint, eucalyptus, bergamot and lavender are indicated. If the subject is strong enough, a lukewarm bath can also be used with essences. Drink plenty of pure water to help cool and detoxify the system.
Dilution: Tepid sponging-1 drop of peppermint and 5 drops of lavender in 2 pints lukewarm water. Compress-1 drop eucalyptus or 1 drop of peppermint with 2 drops of bergamot.
Effect: The antiseptic nature of these essences, as well as their cooling effect, will help combat the infection and reduce the temperature.
Note: Always consult a doctor in cases of high temperatures, especially for children.
Treatment: Prolonged fatigue may be due to high stress levels, vitamin and mineral deficiency, poor diet, lack of exercise, toxic system-all of which need to be assessed. Harmonizing and stimulating oils are usually indicated, such as peppermint, rosemary, geranium, bergamot, clove, nutmeg and thyme-used in baths and massage.
Dilution: No more than 2 drops of thyme, clove and nutmeg should be used in the bath, and 1 drop of peppermint.
Effect: The oils have a naturally revitalizing effect without the harmful side-effects, artificial stimulants such as coffee, tea, sugar, cigarettes, alcohol or drugs impart. Massage with essential oils relieves mental and physical tension which drains energy. The harmonizing action of oils such as bergamot and geranium balance the system, redirecting lost or diverted energy.
Treatment: Lavender applied to the temples or in a cold compress on the forehead or back of neck. Inhaling peppermint may also help-either with or without lavender. Neroli, rosemary and eucalyptus can also bring relief-the latter two used in inhalation for sinusitis headache due to congestion.
Massage relieves headaches brought on by tension, especially muscular tension in the neck and shoulder area. Lack of water or a toxic system may also cause headaches-drink a large glass of pure water. For regular or constant headaches, diet and life-style should be examined.
Dilution: Undiluted 2 drops for compress. 5 drops lavender, 2 eucalyptus, 3 rosemary.
Effect: Lavender and peppermint have a strong analgesic action, and rosemary, eucalyptus and peppermint have a very cleansing stimulating effect. Lavender and neroli are particularly indicated for tension headaches.
This will help cleanse the system and relieve the pain. Lack of salt, calcium or food allergies may also cause headaches.
Treatment: Abdominal massage with lavender, chamomile, marjoram, clove (bud), thyme and rosemary. Hot compresses can be placed on abdomen using one of the essences. Herb teas of peppermint, fennel or chamomile will also ease discomfort.
Dilution: 2 ½ % dilution.
Effect: Anti-spasmodic action will promote relaxation and aid digestion.
